 NHTSA proposes Automatic Emergency Braking Requirements for new VehiclesThe U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that would require automatic emergency braking and pedestrian AEB systems on passenger cars and light trucks. The proposed rule is expected to dramatically reduce crashes associated with pedestrians and rear-end crashes.

Self-driving cars fall short when it comes to understanding the social codes in traffic that let human drivers decide whether to give way or drive on, according to new award winning 
A regulation proposed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will help ensure that important improvements in automatic emergency braking (AEB) technology, including systems to protect pedestrians, spread through the vehicle fleet as quickly as possible.
As the demand for self-driving connected technology grows, so do conversations around vehicle safety and cybersecurity. Many advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in today's vehicles are already operating autonomously using a combination of sensor, camera, radar, and other technologies to course-correct driver error or detect and avoid nearby obstacles. But just like any other connected tech, autonomous vehicles (AV) are vulnerable to cyberattacks.
Hyundai Motor recently IONIQ Ioniq 6, the second model in its IONIQ line-up brand dedicated to battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). The Electrified Streamliner has an aerodynamic profile for outstanding efficiency and makes innovative use of sustainable materials to reflect EV customers' values. IONIQ 6 is also equipped with an array of advanced technologies, personalised space and features, while offering an extended range, to redefine the boundaries of electric mobility.
At its May 2023 open meeting, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved the use of higher-powered mobile radar operations in the 60 GHz band. Among the automotive applications that can be further deployed now that the FCC has taken this action: life-saving sensing technology to monitor for children inadvertently left unattended in vehicles, seatbelt reminders and air bag deployment control.

The STMicroelectronics ASM330LHB automotive-qualified MEMS inertial-sensing module provides accurate measurements for a wide variety of vehicle functions and, with the dedicated software provided, addresses functional-safety applications up to ASIL B.

QUADRIS is the short name for "Improved quantitative driver behavior models and safety assessment methods for ADAS and AD", which is the most recent project in SAFER's portfolio. It's the third project in a sequence of the SAFER associated projects after QUADRA and QUADRAE.
