D-TRAS Digital Platform for Traffic Safety-risk Prediction in Rural AreasIn the D-TRAS project, a digital platform is being developed to warn road users (car and motorbike drivers) of possible traffic risks, mainly on roads in rural areas. This includes mountain roads in particular. A demonstrable traffic risk can arise if the driver is not concentrated or distracted, or if there are special environmental or road conditions, or if they change unexpectedly.

Car Industry piling on the Pressure for weak Assisted Driving System Safety Rules in EuropeETSC is warning that the current proposals for a new UN regulation on so-called Level 2 driver assistance systems like Tesla Autopilot could create additional risks of serious collisions, with no proven safety benefit. Current UNECE rules, known as UN Regulation 79, which apply in the European Union, only allow advanced functions such as assisted lane changes to occur on motorways, where the two lanes of traffic are separated and pedestrians and cyclists are not permitted. Such systems also require the driver to instigate the lane change, by using the vehicle indicator lever.

organised by carhs and BGS, the BAST (Federal Highway Research Institute) carried out a reconstruction of a cyclist accident using a PRIMUS breakable biofidelic dummy. This was a crashtest that had already been carried out before with a classic ATD. After the test, the dummy was cut open by Dr Dobberstein, inspected and examined for damage indicative of injuries to a real person. Although the moderate damage to the dummy indicates serious injuries, it also shows how well pedestrian protection measures can work even in an older vehicle.
