In line with the Euro NCAP vision and roadmap for 2030, "A safer future for mobility", 4activeSystems is working on developing new testing technologies. These will enable the testing of new mobility solutions and pave the way for safer vehicles. One of the key tasks will be to promote vehicle safety developments while keeping in mind the diversity of humankind.
The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety has released a new report on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which support drivers with some driving tasks. However, drivers may lack appropriate knowledge about ADAS, which can translate to misusing or mistrusting the technologies, especially in situations beyond the capability of the system.
The ADMA-Micro is GeneSys' smallest GNSS-aided inertial measurement unit (IMU). It measures the 3D position in real-time within an accuracy of 0.01 m (1 ). Based on accelerations and rotation rates, which are also measured, velocities, position angles and heading can be determined. The use of MEMS gyros and accelerometers makes it possible to create a highly accurate, compact and lightweight device. Different structural shape allows choosing the right design for a variety of applications, including vehicles and VRUs (Vulnerable Road Users), construction machines, UGVs (Unmanned Ground Vehicles) and robotics.
Functions of vehicle operation, such as windscreen wiper settings, are increasingly being implemented digitally and operated via touch displays. They integrate many functions. However their operation distracts from the driving task. In a study, the UDV therefore investigated how in-vehicle HMI should be designed to be as least distractive as possible.
The new edition jBEAM Durability adds important functions to the analysis software jBEAM from Kistler which is well-known for decades already - resulting in even more flexibility and efficiency for vehicle testing: users benefit from fast data analysis, clear visualization and automated reporting - reducing potential errors and saving valuable time in the process.
ZF's Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) division and Volta Trucks have announced a long-term agreement, for some of the core systems and components in the all-electric Volta Zero. ZF technologies fitted to the Volta Zero have been designed and configured specifically for commercial vehicle use and form part of the key systems. These systems include the OnGuardACTIVE Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS), Electronic Braking System (EBS) including the brake pedal box, ESCsmart Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and OnHand Electro-Pneumatic Handbrake (EPH).
Hitachi Astemo, Ltd. has developed an autonomous driving technology that help to safely and smoothly pass by oncoming vehicles on narrow roads and other situations by utilizing 3D sensing results of the surrounding vehicle environment. Hitachi Astemo aims to strengthen its cost competitiveness through the use of 3D sensing data obtained from new stereo cameras with improved cost benefits.
HELLA is launching the SlimLine Bi-LED headlamp, the first rectangular light module in the HELLA portfolio. The Company is thus following a major trend in terms of design. The headlamp offers excellent light output and is ideal for a wide range of highly demanding applications. Thanks to its solid housing and robust construction, it can be used in harsh environments and for heavy-duty applications.
The UNICARagil funding project, which IPG Automotive was a part of, finished at the end of May. The project used new approaches to automated vehicles and their architecture and culminated in the presentation of four driverless prototypes. IPG Automotive contributed the CarMaker simulation and test platform to the project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), which brought together leading universities in the field of automated driving with industry specialists.
