 Volvo Trucks launches new Safety SystemsAmong the features that have been developed to increase the safety of pedestrians and cyclists while at the same time facilitating the work of the driver, is the new Front Short Range Assist. The system is designed to detect if a cyclist or pedestrian in the risk area in front of the truck, using a front radar and camera, and warns the driver if there is imminent risk of a collision.

MGA Research Corporation has a long history of conducting both tests and has even contributed to the research and development of the side pole crash test methodology specified in the safety standard. MGA takes pride in regularly conducting both side pole and MDB tests at the facilities in Alabama and Wisconsin.
Yanfeng has recently expanded its research and development activities in Europe. The new equipment is part of its Technical Center in Tren ín, Slovakia, and focuses on the company's Safety Systems business. It complements the existing interiors product portfolio and testing capabilities at the site. With this investment in new equipment and technologies, Yanfeng extends its passive safety component development and testing capabilities outside of China.
Mobileye has introduced the world's first vision-only Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA) solution for automakers, following testing and certification across Europe. The camera-only solution, launching in production vehicles this year, helps global automakers meet new European Union (EU) General Safety Regulation (GSR) standards requiring automatic sensing of speed limits in all new vehicle models, without the need to rely on third-party map and GPS data.
Recently, FMVSS 223 and 224 received their first major update in decades, prompting MGA to create new testing equipment for evaluating rear underride guards against these heightened standards.
onsemi announced the launch of its Hyperlux automotive image sensor family. With a 2.1 µm pixel size, industry-leading 150dB ultra high dynamic range (HDR) and LED flicker mitigation (LFM) across the full automotive temperature range, the Hyperlux family provides high performance, speed and advanced features to propel the next generation of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) forward. It also enables a smooth transition to Level 2+ driving automation, which requires the driver to only take over when alerted by the technology.

ams OSRAM has enhanced its portfolio of infrared laser modules for automotive in-cabin sensing with the TARA2000-AUT-SAFE vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) family, which offers a more reliable and robust eye safety feature than existing automotive VCSEL modules. A top-10 global car manufacturer has already selected this new product for a new design, and ams OSRAM will supply it in mass production volumes starting in 2024.

The SAFE-UP project, with its ambition to make future mobility safer for both occupants and VRUs (Vulnerable Road Users), held its final project conference on 17 May 2023 at the headquarters of lead partner Applus+ IDIADA in Spain. The event brought together around 50 participants, including researchers, policymakers, automotive experts, and road safety enthusiasts, who witnessed the project's remarkable advancements in active and passive safety systems for autonomous vehicles.
