Seminar: Virtual Testing for Vehicle Safety Assessment in Consumer Protection Tests and Regulations

article imageVehicle type approval based on virtual test procedures has been possible for some time for a limited number of specific regulations in automotive safety. However, there have been very few real applications so far. Currently the increasing demands of consumer protection organizations are leading to a noticeable acceleration in the development and acceptance of procedures for virtual testing as an alternative or supplement to physical testing. There are also corresponding efforts by legislators to implement virtual test procedures in new regulations for the assessment of vehicle safety.

The trainer Andre Eggers has been a research associate at the German Federal Highway Research and Transport Institute since 2006 and works in the fields of biomechanics, evaluation of dummies, human models and virtual testing.

Off the Grid: Why F1's Thermal Limits Demand Simulation Flexibility

article imageIn Formula 1, heat is the enemy of speed. As we approach the 2026 regulation changes, the most significant shift in powertrain architecture in a generation, the battle against that enemy is moving from the radiator shop to the simulation environment. For thermal engineers, F1 has always been a "proving ground". But as we push the limits of power density, we find that the biggest bottleneck isn't just the physics of heat transfer but it's the flexibility of the tools we use to model it.

Virtual Engineering Workbenches and Cloud-based SIL Testing: Accelerating SDV Development

article imageSDVs as a Challenge: OEMs and suppliers are facing increasingly software-driven vehicle architectures characterized by growing complexity, frequent updates, and tighter validation schedules. Conventional hardware-centric testing cannot keep pace with these demands, and issues discovered late in the process often lead to costly warranty claims. Since software is now one of the primary causes of warranty costs, earlier and more comprehensive validation has become essential.
