Auto Innovators releases U.S. NCAP Upgrade Plan

The Alliance for Automotive Innovation (Auto Innovators) announced recommendations to modernize the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), the program that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) uses to convey safety information to consumers. The Auto Innovators plan includes ways NHTSA can “kick start” NCAP immediately.

U.S. Congresswoman Norton announces Bill to require Equality in Crash Test Dummies

article imageCongresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton from Washington, D.C., the chair of the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, announced that she will introduce a bill to require that car crash test dummies be modeled on both male and female bodies. The federal government only uses crash test dummies modeled on male bodies, and car companies are not required to use dummies modeled on female bodies either.

New Research into the Performance of Booster Seats

article imageA new study conducted at the Transurban Road Safety Centre at NeuRA has found that, providing the booster seat and seat belt are used correctly, a booster seat can be just as effective as new larger types of harnessed forward-facing car seats in protecting children aged four to eight years, in the event of a crash.

Motorcycle Rider Model for Injury Prediction on its Way in new SAFER Project

article imageIn the new SAFER associated project "Motorcycle rider model for injury prediction" the aim is to deliver an updated SAFER Human Body Model (HBM) validated for prediction of motorcycle rider kinematics in the most common crashes. The updated SAFER HBM will also be able to predict the risk for critical injuries sustained by the riders. A tool that can transform the model in a biofidelic manner to different postures will also be included in the work.

Digital Guardian Angel for Cyclists

article imageContinental and Deutsche Telekom are protecting cyclists: The two companies are developing a system that warns of accidents between connected vehicles and cyclists or other vulnerable road users such as pedelec, scooter riders and pedestrians. The solution calculates the paths taken by cars and bicycles. If they are likely to cross at the same time, the system warns both road users via mobile communications in real-time. Initial road tests have been successful.

Safe Systems can save Lives and improve Equity, says new John Hopkins Report

Intelligent Speed Assistance set for Launch on all new EU Vehicle Types from 2022
