 TNCAP releases the Results of the first Batch of Safety Ratings for two Toyota VehiclesAfter the first crash witnessing event of Taiwan New Car Assessment Program was completed on October 27th, 2022, the first two models (TOYOTA Corolla Cross and TOYOTA RAV4) were subjected to 17 TNCAP active and passive safety assessment tests. Markus Biewendt, Head of Vehicle Safety at Volkswagen, discusses the OEM's aim to go fully digital in crash testing, and how the latest developments in simulation will facilitate this.
The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the 15 recipients of the U.S. Government Safety Engineering Excellence and Special Appreciation Awards for their work in motor vehicle safety engineering and public service. The awards were presented at the 27th International Technical Conference on the Enhanced Safety of Vehicles in Yokohama, Japan.
A new round of results from the Child Restraint Evaluation Program, PESRI, was launched with the evaluation of the safety performance of fourteen Child Restraint Systems (CRS) sold in the Latin America and Caribbean region. The CRSs tested are available in the region in various markets. The tests include four infant carrier models, four convertible models for infants or children, four multi-group seats (which can be used in both integral and booster mode) and two boosters with backrests.
babyark launchs the babyark convertible car seat. The car seat introduces a holistic approach to safety, focusing on both the materials it is made of and the technology that has been added to it. Developed by Shy Mindel, an aeronautical engineer turned parent, the seat is introducing a new standard of safety for children.
Honda safety engineer Eric Heitkamp received the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. Department of Transportation for his work in leading the creation of a groundbreaking front passenger airbag design. Heitkamp accepted the U.S. Government Award for Safety Engineering Excellence at the 2023 Enhanced Safety of Vehicles (ESV) conference in Yokohama, Japan. Designed to decrease the chance of serious brain injury, the new passenger front airbag technology is now standard equipment in the Acura MDX, Acura TLX and Honda Pilot.
The first 2023 round of results under Global NCAP's more demanding crash test requirements for India were published with the Maruti Suzuki WagonR scoring one star in adult occupant protection and zero for child occupant protection. The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 scored two stars for adult occupant protection and zero for child occupant protection. The VW Virtus / Skoda Slavia achieved five stars in both adult and child occupant protection.
Continental will be collaborating with the semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies AG in the development of server-based vehicle architectures. The goal is an organized and efficient electrics/electronics (E/E) architecture with central high-performance computers (HPC) and a few, powerful Zone Control Units (ZCU) instead of up to a hundred or even more individual control units, as it was previously the case.
A multifaceted approach could help end distracted driving, a new study from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety shows. Along with strengthening laws and beefing up enforcement, safety officials should concentrate on leveraging friendships and family ties to inspire change, making drivers more aware of how serious a threat distraction represents and offering solutions to the common barriers that prevent them from simply ignoring their phones, an IIHS survey of drivers suggests.

Bosch is leading the way and is actively involved in projects, alliances, and initiatives at both the national and international level to lay important foundations for 6G technology.
At the annual Open House Germany, IPG Automotive offered insights into the latest release of CarMaker. In addition to new tools for scenario parameterization and a new ground truth sensor model, new CarMaker functionalities for customizing the 3D environment has been available since March 29, 2023. The simulation and test software also enables scaling the generation of roads and offers more solutions for hybrid and electric vehicle applications thanks to its new battery model and a modular powertrain architecture.
The SUperSAFE project aims to fully understand how the interaction between connected and automated vehicles and conventional road users works, to explain it and relate this to the digital and physical road infrastructure. Many questions about safe interactions with automated vehicles will be addressed in the new EU project SUperSAFE "SUrrogate measures for SAFE autonomous and connected mobility", recently associated to the SAFER project portfolio.
