On 13 April 2023 the MEDIATOR Final Event took place at The Hague Public Transport Museum (HOVM). The presentations on the main project results, including a demo festival, keynote speech and panel discussions were received very well by the audience.
A car is parked on the street, another is coming towards it - can the self-driving vehicle ANTON master this task? Scientists from Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) tested this together with the Application Centre of the Fraunhofer IVI at the In2Lab "First Mile" test field.
A major European research project, i4Driving, will lay the foundation for a new standard method for evaluating the safety impacts of self-driving vehicles. VTI is one of 17 partners that, among other things, will contribute to bringing more behavioural science aspects into traffic simulation models.

ZF has joined the Navigation Data Standard (NDS) Association. In this association, automotive manufacturers, suppliers, map providers, and developers of map-based applications and services are establishing a global standard for digital maps in Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) resolution formats. ZF contributes expertise in the development of system solutions and intelligent sensor technology and benefits from the open exchange of information on digital map solutions with customers and other players in the automotive industry.
Gentex Corporation announced that it has closed an agreement with ADASKY as the lead investor in a Series B round of financing and has also established a commercial, engineering, and manufacturing collaboration agreement to help bring ADASKY s proprietary technology to market. The investment round of financing and the collaboration agreement with Gentex will help secure the transition of ADASKY from an early growth company to a global leader in automotive thermal sensing.
Fisker Inc., driven by a mission to create the world's most emotional and sustainable electric vehicles, announced the Fisker Ocean completed and met all applicable FMVSS testing required for US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) self-certification and meets New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) standards for a 5-star rating. Fisker utilized an internationally recognized agency to carry out the testing.
New analysis of road casualty data by Brake reveals that every 19 days the equivalent of a whole class of young children is killed or seriously injured on roads in Britain. On 26 April 2023 100,000 children got ready to learn about road safety by taking part in Brake's biggest ever Beep Beep! Day.
In early 2022, MGA established the first California testing laboratory and since June of 2022, the capabilities related to the Phase 1 implementation have been fully offered to customers. A large portion of these offerings involve FMVSS 200 series component level tests and airbag deployments. Throughout 2023, MGA Research will be adding additional test systems/capabilities to the laboratory.
Siemens Digital Industries Software and TNO will intensify their collaboration on the safe deployment of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicles (AV). Both organisations remain strong in their belief in vehicle automation. The automation community has shown strong improvements and harmonisation in the development of automation over the past years. The goal of this partnership is to realise the envisioned benefits of automation even more rapidly.
The U.S. Department of Transportation announced over 30 new commitments from organizations that are supporting the Department's National Roadway Safety Strategy and taking action to reverse the crisis that is killing more than 40,000 people on American roads each year. This brings the total number of Allies in Action to over 80.
Road deaths in the Netherlands grew by a quarter last year, rising from 582 in 2021 to 737 in 2022, according to preliminary figures published by Statistics Netherlands in April 2023. In recent years, more cyclists were killed in the Netherlands than car occupants, which partly reflects relatively high levels of bike usage in the country. However, there is particular concern about a dramatic 60 % rise in the number of older cyclists (75+) dying. The figure for 2021 was 94 deaths, which rose to 150 last year, more than half of the total number of killed cyclists (291).
