Crash test dummies have been an integral part of vehicle safety research and development for decades, allowing engineers to test the effectiveness of new vehicle designs and technologies in physical crash tests as well as computer simulations of crash tests. But not all crash test dummies are created equal. For example, the Hybrid III 5th currently used in some safety test protocols and the newer advanced THOR-5F (Test device for Human Occupant Restraint) are both designed to simulate the physical characteristics of a small-stature female. However, there are some significant differences and implications between the two dummies pertaining to the accuracy of representing the female physiology and fidelity of data produced from crash test results.
At the World Reconstruction Expo 2023, engineering and public safety organizations conducted multiple vehicle and pedestrian crash tests to demonstrate real-world scenarios to attendees. The tests also allowed equipment vendors to exhibit how their systems are used in these simulations.
Continental and HERE Technologies will power all of IVECO's commercial vehicles across the EU with Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) and fuel-saving functions. These will be delivered through Continental's eHorizon platform, aggregating and delivering HERE map content, with data exchange enabled by Continental's scalable 4G/5G telematics control unit.
Starting in May 2023, sensors will record the traffic situation at three intersections in Ingolstadt. In the course of implementing a High Definition Test Field (HDT) as part of the project "Künstliche Intelligenz im Verkehrssystem Ingolstadt" (KIVI), masts are currently being installed at the intersections Goethestraße, Schillerstraße and Friedrich-Ebert-Straße and equipped with powerful sensors and data processing systems. KIVI is a project funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport.
SGS has awarded the world's first Global Certification Forum (GCF) Certification for cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) technology to global IoT solutions provider, Shanghai Quectel Wireless Solutions Co., Ltd. (Quectel) for its self-developed C-V2X module AG550Q-NA.
The South Korean Transportation Safety Authority (KOTSA) relies on innovative German technology when it comes to test methods for driver assistance systems. In cooperation with the simulation and validation specialist dSPACE and the machinery and equipment manufacturer Dürr, the authority is developing new test methods and standards to check the functionality of modern driver assistance systems during periodic main inspections.
Toyoda Gosei has developed the world's first automobile emblem that is both transparent to millimeter wave radar and luminescent. This product will be used on the new Lexus RZ battery electric vehicle (BEV) from Toyota Motor. Toyoda Gosei has previously provided millimeter wave radar compatible emblems, which offer both an attractive metallic appearance and transparency to millimeter wave radar for advanced driving support systems, and luminescent emblems that accentuate the brand logo with LED light.
Nexteer Automotive announced its Modular Rack-Assist Electric Power Steering (mREPS) system and expanded the Company's cost-effective, modular EPS offerings. Nexteer's mREPS provides flexibility to efficiently meet OEMs' wide-ranging requirements for advanced steering systems of heavier vehicles, such as EVs, light commercial vehicles, etc.
ETSC is calling on the European Union to drop plans to allow children aged as young as 16 to drive any car that has been adapted with a speed-limiting device set at 45 km/h. The proposal, part of plans announced March 2023 to revise driving licence rules in the EU, appears to be inspired by a Finnish legal proposal first put forward five years ago.
In a new research project, the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI), together with Linköping University and a group of experts, will examine whether a battery swapping for heavy electric vehicles can be implemented in Sweden. And if so, how to do it. The technology is already in use on a large scale in China, but many in Sweden are not aware of the battery swapping alternative.
At the final meeting on 29 - 30 March 2023 of NewControl, VIRTUAL VEHICLE demonstrated its Fail Operational Urban Parking Use Case on its own demonstrator and took the opportunity to present the developed innovations together with the project partners and the project coordinator AVL after four project years.
