Rear Protection lags in small Cars

Most small cars don t provide good protection for rear-seat passengers, the latest crash test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety show. "These results highlight one of the key reasons that we updated our moderate overlap front crash test," said IIHS President David Harkey. "In all the small cars we tested, the rear dummy 'submarined' under the seat belt, causing the lap belt to ride up onto the abdomen and increasing the risk of internal injuries."

How newer Advanced Crash Test Dummies can help raise the Bar for Injury Prevention

article imageIt's hard to believe it s been 45 years since the Hybrid III series crash test dummy, the workhorse of the industry, was first introduced in 1978. And even more astonishing is that it's still the main tool used today in crash test regulations across the globe. I wonder how many of you reading this were even born at that time? You must imagine the changes in technology, research, and data gathered since that time as well and how shifts in transportation have evolved.

Positive User Experience: Continental Psychologists conduct User-centric Research with the Wizard of Oz

article imageThe auto industry is going through the biggest upheaval since the invention of the automobile. Digitization, networking, semi-autonomous driving functions and, above all, the rapidly changing user behavior of people require new mobility concepts. The automobile is becoming the much-cited "smartphone on wheels." In the future, highly automated vehicles will offer the occupants more space for relaxation and entertainment and serve as a partner who interacts via intelligent language assistance, 3D displays, and innovative functions. A positive user experience (UX) is essential for the success of new vehicles today. This means that the development of new automobiles is becoming increasingly complex.

Digital Twins predict future AV Crash Scenarios - D2.4 Summary

article imageSAFE-UP Deliverable 2.4 focuses on the necessary steps in developing a simulation environment that can model future safety-critical scenarios involving fully autonomous vehicles (AVs). A traffic simulation environment attempts to represent what could happen in a scenario that cannot be tested in real-life conditions - either because it is not yet feasible or too costly. In general, the models included in simulation environments are collision-free by design, which is quite the obstacle when studying potential (new) crash scenarios.
