 FMVSS 127 Automatic Emergency Braking publishedThe U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) finalized a new Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard that will make automatic emergency braking (AEB), including pedestrian AEB, standard on all passenger cars and light trucks by September 2029. This safety standard is expected to significantly reduce rear-end and pedestrian crashes.

The Chinese Physiological Human Body Model (AC-HUMs), developed under the auspices of China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd. (CAERI), has begun accepting trial applications. This model is supported by data from multiple medical institutions in China and has been developed with the participation of several universities. It is the first series of Chinese physiological human body finite element models with fully independent intellectual property rights. The model available for trial this time is: the 50th percentile male human body model (pedestrian version).

MAN has become the first commercial vehicle manufacturer to send an autonomous truck onto the German motorway. On board of the test truck, which drove around ten kilometres on the A9 between the Allershausen and Fürholzen junctions, were Federal Transport Minister Dr Volker Wissing and MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp.
Applied Intuition, Inc. and AUDI AG are partnering to create a unified solution that enables the development, validation, type approval, and deployment of automated driving (AD) systems for the Audi Group on the vehicle level. This joint solution will set a new benchmark for the fast, robust, and cost-efficient validation and release of AD functions with industry-leading safety in an expanded operational design domain (ODD). It is independent, future-proof, and can be used across different AD stacks within Audi Group.
Scania is expanding its strategic development of autonomous hub-to-hub transport solutions, with the launch of an Autonomous Commercial Pilot Programme. As part of TRATON Group, Scania will also be involved in a new partnership with US-based Plus, which will integrate its Level 4, fully autonomous SuperDrive technology stack into Scania and TRATON Group vehicles.
In this context, the G7 transport ministers underlined the importance of UNECE's regulatory work carried out within its World Forum for the Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29), namely the safety of automated, electrified, and connected vehicles, battery durability of electrified vehicles and safety of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, as well as GHG emissions assessment over the entire vehicle life cycle.
Tom Dingus has dedicated his life's work to improving roadway safety through innovative transportation technologies and amassed multiple awards for his efforts. The Society of Automotive Engineers' (SAE) International Humanitarian Award now joins that list. The award recognizes work with undeniably positive impact on safety in transportation in honor of Arnold W. Siegel, an automobile safety pioneer, according to SAE's website.
