The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is pushing automakers to improve their crash avoidance systems and demanding superior protection for back seat passengers in the 2026 award season. Even with tougher rules, 63 vehicles qualify for IIHS awards so far. That is up from 48 at the same point last year. Of the winners, 45 earn a TOP SAFETY PICK+ and 18 earn a TOP SAFETY PICK.
NVIDIA announced an expanded collaboration with Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation to advance next-generation autonomous driving technologies built on the NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion autonomous vehicle development platform. The collaboration brings together Hyundai Motor Group's software-defined vehicle (SDV) capabilities, global vehicle fleet and autonomous driving development expertise with NVIDIA accelerated computing, AI infrastructure and autonomous driving software to support the development of scalable, data-driven autonomous driving systems across Hyundai Motor Group vehicle platforms.
The Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin (HZB) and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) officially inaugurated the Berlin Battery Lab (BBL). At this new research platform, BAM, HZB and HU jointly develop and test resource-efficient battery technologies with a focus on sodium-based systems.
Autoliv, Inc., has developed its first complete wearable protection for motorcycle riders: a vest with an integrated airbag system designed to reduce critical injury risks in the event of a crash. Anritsu Coproration announces that its Hybrid eCall evaluation solution, featuring the eCall Tester MX703330E, has obtained industry-first European EN 18052:2025 certification following testing by cetecom advanced, a leader in electronic equipment certification. The certification confirms reliable end-to-end validation of Hybrid eCall systems operating across 2G and 3G circuit-switched and 4G packet-switched networks.
IPG Automotive and b-plus automotive GmbH announce the beginning of their strategic partnership. The aim of the collaboration is to create a seamless toolchain for development, testing, and validation of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving (AD).
AB Dynamics has announced the opening of a new technical facility in Bavaria, near Munich. The site aims to significantly improve equipment uptime and test efficiency for AB Dynamics' customer base. The brand-new building is strategically located to provide localised support to major vehicle manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers.
Intellias has opened a TISAX Assessment Level 3-certified engineering garage in Ingolstadt, Germany, in addition to its fully operational office in the IN-Campus. The facility provides Intellias secure premises in the heart of the German automotive industry for automotive software development and validation, combining normal/high/very high protection class for prototype vehicle testing, a test bench laboratory, and an AI R&D Lab for joint development with clients in the region.
Valeo announces a major program award from a premium global automaker. As part of this program, Valeo is introducing a new, state-of-the-art, automated high-volume manufacturing solution utilizing TactoTek's In-Mold Structural Electronics (IMSE) technology. The project not only strengthens Valeo's position at the forefront of interior system innovation, but also solidifies the Group's role as a key technology partner for the future of mobility.
SAFER can now add a new partner project to the SAFER portfolio, with a clear focus on the future of road safety. The European Commission has approved a Coordination Support Action within Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility, involving a wide range of SAFER partners. The project sets the scene for an upcoming large-scale demonstration planned towards the end of the current Horizon Europe program, with the aim of submitting a larger project proposal in October 2026.
